Organization: MENTOR Initiative
Country: Turkey
Closing date: 17 Dec 2015

The MENTOR Initiative is a charitable “Not for Profit” organisation registered in the UK, with headquarters based in Crawley, West Sussex, and works in over 8 countries in Africa and the Middle East. We have been providing assistance to national and international partners, working in humanitarian crises in delivering effective vector borne disease control interventions since 2006. The goal of MENTOR is ultimately to reduce the burden of vector borne disease on emergency affected populations. Our work in Syria is in response to the increasing numbers and widespread transmission of leishmaniasis in the northern parts of the country, since the beginning of the civil war in 2011. What was already an endemic disease, leishmaniasis has now become one of the most pertinent and prevalent communicable diseases within the country.

Our response is a three-pronged approach to tackling this disease through prevention, medical and IEC activities. In so doing we have reached over 2million beneficiaries and treated more than 100,000 cases from 2014-2015. Due to the present security situation and border closures between Syria and Turkey, this process is remotely managed from our office in Killis, Turkey.

MENTOR seeks a Humanitarian Behaviour Change Coordinator with experience of working within an Arabic context. Strong skills in formative research related to the development and testing of innovations that improve public health outcomes are required. The right candidate will have experience applying state-of-the-art theories and models of BCC, preferably in the health field. This position requires the ability to work with multiple teams centrally in southern Turkey, whilst remotely training and managing a team within Syria. The disease focus is leishmaniasis and through a comprehensive programme of Integrated Vector Management (IVM), MENTOR reaches in excess of 3 million persons in the north of Syria.
